Connections to the outside
Windows offer more than just a way to ventilate and let light in. And doors can be more than simply the entrance to your house. Windows and doors come in a wide range of versions, sizes, shapes and colours.
Airtightness and heat loss are decided in the end by the installation, not by the catalogue. If you are unsure which version suits your wall build-up, we can clarify that in the Consulting.
Depending on their position, size and number, they influence the feel of a room and its atmosphere. Windows connect the interior with the surroundings outside and can visually extend the space. At the same time, every window is also a small opening in your privacy. It is worth asking yourself: how much openness and how much screening do I need in order to feel comfortable? Where do I want corners in the house that cannot be seen into, and where do I deliberately want the boundary between inside and outside to blur?
Windows and doors are the connections to the outside and have a great influence on how comfortable you feel.

Windows: light and privacy
Working out where the windows go is an individual matter. Questions you can ask yourself when planning windows include: where do I want a connection to the outside, where do I like it bright? Do I enjoy looking out of the window while I work, or do I find it a disruptive intrusion into my privacy, possibly being watched by others while doing so? Because there is one thing to bear in mind, logically enough: we do not only look out of the window, we can also be seen. Windows that are wanted purely as a source of natural light, without compromising privacy, can also be set into the roof or above eye level.
The colour of the frame is entirely up to you. Windows do not have to be wood-coloured or white; coloured frames set individual accents and affect the look both from outside and inside.

If you already know exactly where the house is going to stand, you can deliberately take that into account in the design. Which view is particularly beautiful? Can I look out onto water or an especially fine view from the sofa or the bed? Conversely, are there less attractive corners that you would rather not have in view? How visible should the interior be from the road or to the neighbours? Compass directions can be taken into account as well. Where do I want sun in the morning and where in the evening?
Whether classically rectangular, round or arched – in principle every type of window can be fitted. The cost depends on how much work the installation involves.
Window, open up!
A window is not just a window. Most windows fitted in Germany are tilt-and-turn models, which can be tilted open at the top and also swung fully open inwards. There are, however, plenty of other versions, some of which have decisive advantages for a Tiny House.
Danish windows open outwards, which can be practical in small rooms: even with the windows open, there is no pane reaching into the room and taking up space. That is an advantage above all in summer, when the windows are open.
Sliding windows avoid the problem of taking up space in the living area. One half of the window can be opened at a time, which can be an advantage above the worktop in the kitchen, for example
Roof windows can also be fitted without any difficulty. Centre-pivot windows and top-hung centre-pivot windows are available in sizes up to 1340cm x 980cm.
Fixed windows that cannot be opened can be used, for example, in places where you would like more light but opening the window is not necessary or would be impractical. For instance, where plants or other items sit permanently on the windowsill. A window that can only be tilted and not opened fully would also be a good choice here.
For Tiny House builds I use high-quality windows with timber or aluminium frames and double or triple glazing. That way as little heating energy as possible is lost through the glazed areas. Which type makes sense depends essentially on the insulation. If you are unsure about this, I am glad to advise you.
Doors – Entrances to your realm
The door is the entrance to your own personal realm. How do you picture your front door? A classic timber door, or rather a glazed patio door that lets in plenty of light and lets inside and outside merge into one another?
If your Tiny House stands on a trailer, the difference in height between the ground and the living space still has to be bridged. A few steps or a ramp can be built in front of the door for this. A terrace is also possible.
